Interview with Elizabeth:

When did you first start writing ?
I started writing in high school, but it took me twenty years to get the nerve up to publish anything.

What do you love about writing?
I love creating worlds and revisiting old ones, I love bringing to life the images and scenes in my head.

What do you need when writing? Music, candy, silence, etc.
I definitely need music when I write and a comfortable spot to sit, which usually ends up being my bed with my laptop on my lap.

How did you go about building your world and characters?
For the Agents for the Crown series I did a great deal of research, and I read everything I could find on the genre. I basically studied the entire Regency time period before I even began writing. For the Soul Mates Series I mixed a little Greek Mythology with some Irish Folklore and added an All-American boy and came up with Max. It has been so fun to create my version of Faerie and shifters and share it with the world.

Is there a character that you can relate to more than others?
With the Agents for the Crown series, I have a real connection to Joanna. I think that is why she plays such a big role throughout the series.

Can you tell us about the Agents for the Crown series and its inspiration?
The series follows the lives of four girls who are best friends. They were at finishing school together and they meet up again in London for the Season.  The series revolves around the four of them, their lives, their loves, their adventures. Each story involves some espionage or crime of some sort where an Agent for the Crown is at hand. I don’t want to give too much away.  As for the inspiration, blame it on my love of history and James Bond. :D

5 words you would use to describe the Agents for the Crown Series?
   Romantic, adventure, suspense,  enchanting, elegant

Are you working on any new projects?
I am currently finishing up book 3 of the Soul Mates series which will be released in July. I also have two more Regency Short stories I’m working on, one for Halloween and one for Christmas, and Book 4, Tangled, for the Agents for the Crown series.

How long did it take you to finish the first three books of the Agents for the Crown Series (from start to publication)?
I actually started writing them around 1998. The first manuscript was horrible, but I didn’t give up on it, the story was good, but I wanted it to be great and I made a lot of rookie mistakes with it. Once I felt it was descent I sent it to an agent and they looked it over, gave me some advice and I adjusted it where they felt it needed it. I tried again and the company had gone out of business. So I kept writing. I joined an online critique group and had them raked over the coals, but it made my manuscript stronger.  I submitted it to a contest on Amazon and made it into the top 100. After that I decided to self publish the series. I wasn’t going to wait anymore. Then I found Sarah Davis, the Queen of Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly Publishing.  And just as she was beginning her company I had a drawing for a copy of my book and she won.  Later she picked up my Soul Mates Scent book for her company and after a few months we talked about my Regencies and she signed me for the series.  She has been amazing. I could not ask for a better publisher!

   Any advice for aspiring authors?
First, write what you know, and if you don’t know it, go out and research it. Second Read other authors in the genre you write. Study how they write, what makes them successful. And third, find a Publisher that has the credentials to back up their words and will care about you and your work. There are many new publishing companies out there, some are great and then there are others who are just going to take you for a ride. So be careful and do your research, do not sign with anyone until you are absolutely sure.

What are you hoping fans will take away from this book?
I am hoping to bring a little bit of elegance and history as well as a good suspenseful mystery and romance to my fans. I want them to be swept away in the moment, to feel like they are right there with my characters experiencing it all themselves.

Thank you so much for hosting me on your blog Cameo! I had a great time!
