Review and Interview: Jaidis Shaw, author of Destiny Awaits

Synopsis:
Twenty-year-old Alayna Scott receives visions around water, but even her foresight couldn’t prepare her for the tragic accident that claimed the lives of her parents. With everything she loves gone, Alayna packs up and moves to the small town of Juniper Grove in hopes of starting over.

Jayden McKnight can’t explain the attraction that he feels whenever Alayna is near, but he does know that he will do whatever it takes to win her heart. When a vampire selects Alayna as his next victim, Jayden will stop at nothing to ensure her safety – even if that means bringing Alayna into a world that she never knew existed.

Love blossoms, challenges are made and Alayna will find herself fighting not only to survive, but to understand what she has become.

My review:

I had no idea what I was getting into before I read Destiny Awaits, aside from what the cover suggested. And, I must say that I was greatly surprised. Vampires, Shifters, a Seer, love, and betrayal fill this novel. It kept me turning pages, right until the end. Author Jaidis Shaw's debut novel is a clear indication that a wonderful Destiny of writing Awaits her.

And now, the awesome Jaidis Shaw is here with us to answer some questions... YAY!!!
So, Ms. Shaw...

How did you become a writer? Have you always wanted to write?
I have always wanted to write but lacked the confidence to actually do so. Then I came to a point where I knew that if I wanted to be a published author I had to buckle down and do it. With the encouragement of a few fellow writers, I took the plunge and submitted a short story which was later accepted.

What was your reaction when you held DESTINY AWAITS in book form, in your hands, for the first time?
Well I haven’t had that opportunity yet. I released the eBook version on April 21st, 2012 but I have to tell you, it felt amazing! I was on the phone at the time and so I held myself together until I was off then jumped up and down a few times in excitement, which was quickly overcome with panic because my book was now out there and vulnerable. J

Describe your writing process.
My process always begins with an idea, which usually always comes to me in a dream. Once I have the idea, I outline the story (the characters, setting, etc.) which I then put in a binder. Once I have a basic plot worked out I sit at the computer and try to put the pieces together.

What inspired you to write DESTINY AWAITS?
I turned to writing as a way to escape the harsh reality of high school. That was when the inspiration began for Destiny Awaits. The story was moving along well when I was diagnosed with epilepsy and I put my writing on hold. I only recently started writing again within the past year or so. Of course by the time I got back to Destiny Awaits, it had been so long that I did a total rewrite.

What is the one thing you want people to remember about DESTINY AWAITS?
If readers took anything away from Destiny Awaits, I would want it to be that no matter how bad things seem, just keep your head up because there are always good things among the chaos. You just have to open your mind and be willing to adjust if needed.

If you could give aspiring writers one piece of advice, what would it be?
If you want to be an author you need to read, especially in the genre that you want to write in. Also, don’t rush to get your book published and skip things like professional editing. Don’t put out a product that you aren’t 100% proud of. J

Great interview Jaidis, and congratulations! Thanks so much for dropping by...I love company! And, I'll definitely be on the look-out O.O for more of your novels in the future!

Review of Dead Radiance by T.G. Ayer

Holy Halls of Valhalla! :)
Dead Radiance, by T.G. Ayer, is an awesome telling of ancient Norse Mythology. It took me on a wonderful journey from a small town of Craven, to Asgard and Valhalla, to the Underworld and back. Bryn, a girl who sees people glow before they die, finds out that she is a Valkyrie. But, not only a Valkyrie, a reincarnation of the Valkyrie Warrior Brunhilde.
I don't want to give too much away, but this book was hard to put down. I definitely recommend it, and can't wait for Dead Embers!

And now, please welcome author Vanna Smythe!!! Yes...of course she's here!!! :)

How did you become a writer? Have you always wanted to write?

I was always fascinated with books, and I always knew I wanted to write. In fact, I can’t even remember when I first decided, or knew, that I wanted to be a writer. That conviction has always just been with me. Though I didn’t start writing seriously until High School. I had some wonderful support from my teachers who certainly helped me believe that it was all possible and that I could one day call myself a writer.

What was your reaction when you held PROTECTOR in book form, in your hands, for the first time?

I’m still waiting for the paper book, but seeing the listing for Protector (Anniversary of the Veil, Book One) on Amazon was quite a thrilling experience in its own right. Not quite the same as a paper book, but exciting just the same. Since I’ve been doing most of my reading on my kindle for the past year, it is almost like holding a real book in my hands.

Describe your writing process.

I will get an idea and mull in over for awhile. Then I will fret over not knowing where to start, or how to start, or whether I will be able to do the story justice. After that, I eventually start to write, deciding that I can fix it all later, if I don’t like something. I’m still working on eliminating the fretting part of my writing process, but I’m getting better at it.

What inspired you to write PROTECTOR?

The main storyline of Protector, and the rest of the Anniversary of the Veil series, was inspired by the idea of twin souls or twin flames. As the theory goes, we all have a soul mate in the form of a twin soul and if we are lucky enough to find and join with our twin in our lifetimes, this bond will release positive energy into the world, and make it a better place to live in. I researched this belief a few years back and thought it would make a great story.

Protector is not your run-of-the-mill romance or love story though. The idea of the energy of love being released artificially and used for many purposes is at the heart of the story, as is dealing with the call of such strong love, which makes it possible. But there is also mystery, intrigue, and a number of very cool special magical powers all based on telepathy and other psychic abilities that have a basis in nature.

What is the one thing you want people to remember about PROTECTOR?

The idea that to meddle with nature, or the natural balance of things is disastrous, and that the power of love is stronger than any artificial rules and laws imposed.

If you could give aspiring writers one piece of advice, what would it be?

Keep writing. This alone will help you get better and better at it. Every time I write something, or revise something, I learn a new aspect of the craft of writing. Writing is a process, but do not fall into the trap of endless revision. At one point you have to let go, and realize that it is ready for publication.

Also, consider every piece of criticism you get on your writing. There are things you will not see, mistakes and problems, so criticisms are a great way to spot those. I know that I could not have finished Protector without the help of my wonderful beta readers, and their feedback.

Thanks so much, Vanna, for stopping by! That was a great interview! I am totally looking forward to reading Protector...soon!
